As many of you know, I recently returned from a trip to Haiti. I have struggled to find a proper response to the often asked question, “So, how was your trip?” In many ways it was great. The sweetness of the people I met, discovering God’s church in Haiti active and “being” the church, the BEAUTIFUL ocean. I gained a new understanding of my Creator and his heart. At the same time though, I was faced with pain, poverty, and hunger like I have never seen. It was an overwhelming experience on so many levels, good and bad. Through all of the wrestling that I have been struggling with, an amazing thing has occurred.
Since my return and sharing what is on my heart, I am amazed with our Crossbridge community! It is awesome to see people’s hearts break for people that they have never met, to hear their passionate desire to travel their next summer to serve the people in Haiti and their generosity to open their wallets and make a difference.
Last Sunday was, “Relief For Haiti,” our campaign to build a bathroom for a school there. The school was being closed by the village, because of it’s lacking this “necessary” room. So, in Crossbridge fashion, we put a toilet at the back of our gathering space on Sunday and asked people to throw their money down the toilet to build one in Haiti.
The amount needed to build the bathroom…$1500.00.
We raised… $4,331.85!!
That is AWESOME!! The message is being relayed to the village that “RELIEF” is coming…and we are talking with the missionaries about what would be the best use of the excess funds!
